ABOUT MCDO UGANDA

Mutukula Community Development Organisation (MCDO)

Mutukula Community Development Organization (MCDO) is a legally registered, community-rooted nonprofit initiative headquartered in Mutukula, Kyotera District, Uganda, near the southern border with Tanzania. Officially established in 2020 and recognized by the Uganda NGO Bureau under Registration No. 599/20), MCDO operates across four key villages located in three districts - Kyotera, Rakai, and parts of Lwengo - serving a population of approximately 15,000 people from about 2,000 families

Our mission is to empower underserved communities - especially vulnerable children, women, persons with disabilities, and families affected by displacement and disease - through sustainable, people-centered development. We address systemic poverty by focusing on four strategic pillars: Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, and Environmental Sustainability.

MCDO was founded by Fr. Vincent Mwebe, a Catholic priest with pastoral and educational leadership experience whose personal journey is deeply rooted in the local community. The inspiration for MCDO traces back to Mijuma Village in 2014, when Fr. Vincent’s father, the late Mr. Peter Kitatta, donated four acres of land to establish the area’s first nursery school - launched in a makeshift classroom block - simple yet symbolic of their belief in a better future. Despite the community’s hopes, the initiative quietly declined a few years later due to financial constraints and the lack of sustaining support.

As a young seminarian at Ggaba, Fr. Vincent was profoundly moved by his father's words: “Our children need education and are dying from treatable illnesses. We must do something.” He carried this conviction into his priestly ministry. By 2020, now serving pastoral leadership across more than 20 schools in the Mutukula region, Fr. Vincent responded to the growing need by mobilizing a group of 24 community members - predominantly women and youth - and formally launched what has since flourished into the Mutukula Community Development Organization (MCDO). What began as a local concern became a movement of hope, rooted in dignity, shared commitment, and transformative action.
